The Atom LL team are on a winning streak!
The Atom's had a 2 game weekend. Saturday we travelled to Clinton for a 4pm start vs. BCH Ice Dogs.
We were short 2 players on our bench so we needed all hands on deck!
Tim Beuerman started between the pipes for our team. The first period proved the teams to be evenly matched. The puck was back and forth. With 4:34 left in the first period, Sawyer Voskamp got us on the board on an assist from Cayden Hulley. The first period ended with us ahead 1-0. Beuerman was doing his best to stop all the shots he faced.
Into the second we went, hoping to hold our lead. 34 seconds into the second, Kaleb Horton-Shine broke out from the BCH defenders and scored an unassisted goal to make it 2-0. Our lead was cut in half 3 minutes later when BCH got their first of the game. Haiden Goetz added some insurance 1 minute later on a goal assisted by Ryerson Hargrave and Cardy Reimer. Sawyer Voskamp helped our cause with his unassisted marker a minute and a half later. Back and forth we went as BCH scored their second of the game with 3:40 left in the second. The second period ended with CP up 4-2.
Spectators were holding their breath, hoping the squad could hold onto the lead. Nicole Eby came into net for CP.
Ryerson Hargrave didn't wait long into the third to get his unassisted goal at 13:50 remaining. That nudged us to 5-2. Eby had trouble stopping a long shot from BCH that found it's way into the net 11 seconds after Hargrave's goal. 5-3 score. Our team worked hard and fended off their forwards for the remaining 13:41 to come out with a win. Great defensive work and passing!
Sunday, we travelled to Wingham for a 6pm start. Beuerman got the nod for the whole game as Eby wasn't able to make it.
Sawyer Voskamp and Cayden Hulley connected and got our first goal of the game 4:20 into the first. That was all that would be counted for in the first. Into the second we went with a 1-0 lead. Hargrave kept his scoring streak rolling with an unassisted goal 30 seconds in to the second. Kiyran Coulter assisted on Voskamp's second of the game to end the second period with our team up 3-0.
Voskamp would get his third to make it a hat trick in the third period. Ryerson Hargrave assited on that one. Cayden Hulley rounded out our game to score on a pass from defenceman Noal Kirkham. Final score 5-0. Beuerman was elated to get his first shut out of the game. The referee was kind enough to give him the game puck to mark the occasion.
The Atom's go back at it this weekend with a home game in Monkton on Saturday at 11am vs. our neighbours to the South, Mitchell Meteors.
Let's hope we can make it 3 in a row!
The Atom's also participated in the Milverton Santa Claus Parade on Friday night along with some members of the Pee Wee LL team. Thanks to Tiffany and Tara for putting together the float.
