Fantastic day of hockey in Tiverton and a game on Sunday to round it out!
The Pee Wee LL travelled to the Wade Simmons Memorial Tournament on Dec. 3rd in Tiverton. This tournament was to honour the memory of Wade Simmons of Tiverton who passed away in a tragic accident in June 2000. Wade was a Pee Wee hockey player at the time.

Our first game was at 11 am vs. Wasaga Stars. We weren't sure what to expect when you don't see a team thru the regular season.
Brett Falk took the puck down the ice on a pass from Matthew Leach and Noal Poole only 56 seconds into the game and scored the first goal. We were on the board!
It was a tight game for the rest of the first. We went thru the first 9 minutes with the puck going back and forth and Reid Baillie doing a great job of stopping all that came to him. With 39 seconds left in the first, Wasaga scored their first of the tournament as well.
We went into the second all tied up at 1 a piece.  The second period continued to show our teams great team work as the puck was back and forth form both ends. Reid was stellar in net and stopped all of the Stars shots thru the second period. With 1:09 left in the second, Avyn Duncan kept the puck in our end and it was passed over to her linemate, Phillip Beuerman. Beuerman took a chance and shot from the blue line, and lo' and behold the goalie couldn't keep an eye on it. Beuerman scored our second of the game!
That's where the game would end, we won 2-1!
We then moved onto a 3pm game vs. Twin Centre. Central Perth got on the board first 3 1/2 minutes in. Bradley Jantzi scored a beauty assisted by Jamie Donnelly and Avyn Duncan. Two minutes later Sheldon Leis connected with his defenceman Phillip Beuerman to score our second of that period.
It was another tight match and we went into the second with a 2-0 lead. Twin Centre came back with a vengeance in the second and was able to get 3 goals passed Baillie. Our hopes weren't gone yet as the third period had us down by only 1.
Hard work and moving the puck was what we needed in the third period. Brett Falk came thru for us early in the third and scored the tie goal assisted by Matthew Leach and Noah Poole. Into sudden death overtime, 4 on 4 hockey for 5 minutes! The parents were on the edge of their seats the whole 5 minutes. No one could get the puck passed either netminder so we ended OT with no decision. We then went to a shootout with 3 shooters to start. Sheldon Leis, Bradley Jantzi and Noal Poole were the shooters chosen. Sheldon was the lone goal of the first three. But Twin Centre also had 1 goal from the three shooters. Each team went thru their whole bench for shooters before Twin Centre's came back to the top of their roster and the first shooter came up again. Kudos to him as he was able to get it past Reid Baillie to win 4-3. What a heartbreaker loss but such a great effort from our team as well as Twin Centre.
This loss put us over to the 5pm game vs. Goderich, who we play in our regular season. We knew this would be a tough one, but we had come out with a win a couple weeks ago against the Sailors.
Our kids were tired and had heavy hearts after our 3pm shootout loss but they battled back. The first period had Dawson Reimer scoring a beauty 12 seconds into the period, right off the faceoff. Sheldon Leis assisted on the goal. The team knew they couldn't let up though. Goderich would score their first with 4 minutes left. We went into the second period with a tie at 1.
With 10 minutes of the second period, neither team could get another goal. 10 mins of great hockey!
Into the third we went. Jamie Donnelly came thru for us and got our second of the game, unassisted. We were holding out for a win with 7 minutes left in the third. But the hard shot of a Goderich defenceman proved too much for Reid and Goderich tied it up with 1:07 left.
Into OT we go again, this time 3 on 3! The parents nerves were fragile to say the least!  It was a tough 5 minutes to play after a long day of hockey. 2 Minutes into the OT, Sheldon Leis broke free from the Goderich defenceman and scored the winner! What a finish to a great day of hockey!

Each team chose an MVP for each game. Reid Baillie earned the honour in our first two games and Sheldon Leis with the OT goal earned the third.

The weekend wasn't over yet for hockey though. We had a home game vs. Minto Mad Dogs back in PERC on Sunday.  The kids were hopefully well rested and restored after Saturday!
The first period had 6:49 left when Brett Falk shot a wrist shot by the goalie and scored, assisted by Avyn Duncan. That would prove to be the only goal of the game as we were able to fend off their attack for the remaining 2 periods. Final score 1-0.

Great team work and friendship was shown by the team all weekend. The parents are so proud of each player.
Back to  the ice this weekend with a practice on Saturday in Monkton and a game vs. Ripley 4:30 at PERC on Sunday.
