Atoms participate in Minto Minor Hockey Tournament
The Atoms played two games in the Minto Atom Hockey Tournament on January 2nd.
The Atom's took an opportunity to participate in a tournament while we are waiting to hear about our playoff start. Our first game was against Seaforth at 9 am. Perhaps too much turkey and treats over the holidays contributed to our slow start. Seaforth scored 2 goals in the first period, two in the second and 6 in the third period. Central Perth could only come up with one goal in the third from Ben Fizell on an assist from Jamie Donnelly. The final score was 10-1.
The second guaranteed match of the day came at 1 pm vs. Arran Elsderslie (AEMHA). This game was an improvement from the morning. AEMHA scored first 4 minutes into the game. They added another goal two minutes later. Kyle Steckley scored on an assist from Logan Dallner with 3:42 left in the first. We came ahead in the second period with two goals. One from Cohen Smith assisted by Ben Fizell and Fizell scored the other unassisted. The game was well played by both teams and we kept in it.
The third period proved a little tougher to keep up. AEMHA scored three goals in the third to make it a 5-3 final score. Our Atom's didn't have enough points to move on to the semi finals. But it was good hockey and good practise as we move into the playoffs.
The Atoms will face Arthur in our first round of playoffs. Thursday night we travel there for our first game. Arthur will come to Milverton on Sunday for a 3 pm start. If needed, back to Arthur on Monday.
