We gave them a run for their money...

in the second and final matchup vs. Goderich Sailors, the Atom Reps came so close to upsetting the visitors.

After last Tuesday's game in Goderich, we weren't sure what to expect from our Atom Rep team in our final game of the season.
We came out with a vengeance in the first period and surprised the visiting team as we kept up, back checked and challenged their goalie. The first goal of the game came from Cohen Smith on an assist from Ben Fizell, only 2 minutes into the game. Goderich answered back 3 minutes later and tied it up. Our AP Player, Quinn Kipfer earned his stripes with us in this game as he found the back of the net on a pass from Smith and Kyle Steckley to put us ahead 2-1!
We started the second period with high hopes. The second period was an even one with lots of shots on goal for our team. We kept the Sailors on their toes. Goderich tied things up with 3 minutes left in the second. Then only 43 seconds later, they took the lead 3-2. Steckley and Kipfer worked together again on a great teamwork and Kipfer netted his second of the game with 54 seconds left to tie things up. Our defense couldn't help out Reid Baillie as only 30 seconds later, Goderich went ahead 4-3.
The third period brought lots of excitement for the home fans as Goderich had a rash of penalties that we had the man advantage on. At one time, Goderich has 3 kids in the box! In the third period, Goderich scored their 5th of the game a minute and ten into the period. Our team kept up the fight and challenged all through the third. We continued to shoot to the net. With 4 minutes left, Steckley went unassisted and put shot on the goalie that went thru the 5 hole and we were within 1, 5-4!
the last minute of the game was tense and the fans were so hopeful we could find the net once more. The seconds ticked away and the Atoms couldn't get that one crucial goal. Final score 5-4 Goderich.
It was a great game and a commendable team effort for all. Reid Baillie kept us in the game with key saves as usual.

Our season comes to a close on this game. It was a learning year and the kids worked hard and have become friends, in our first year of amalgamation.  We may have an exhibition game in the weeks to come but nothing it set up as of yet.

Great way to end the season team! All of the parents and fans were so impressed with the effort last night!
