A busy start to the new year!

Clifford Tournament
Turkey, cookies and holiday celebrations didn’t slow down the Atom LL team as they started the new year of with a tournament in Clifford on Saturday January 2.

The day started with the Atom LL facing off against Kincardine 2.  We had not faced off against this team yet in our regular season play. What a game to watch. Reid Douglas got the game started in the first period with the first goal of the game, with assists from Hunter Gilbert and Noal Kirkham. The score would stay 1-0, showing a very even two teams play it out in the second period. Then the third period started. Gilbert, assisted by Douglas put us on the board with the second goal. Kincardine kept fighting back and was able to get their one and only goal at 6:41 in the third. But the Atoms fought back hard as Sawyer Voskamp saw the back of the net, assisted by Kirkham. Gilbert was able to put two more goals past the goalie with assists going to Douglas, Voskamp and Landon Boers. Final Score 5-1

Our second game of the day, we took the ice against Kincardine 2. The kids stayed strong, and played hard. The game saw no goals from either team until the third period.  Voskamp was able to sneak two goals past a very strong Kincardine goalie, as well as Gilbert. Final Score 3-1.

After our first two wins, the team finished the round robin in first place with the highest points. This put us in the finals vs West Grey, who only finished 2 points behind.

Like all one day tournaments all kids (and parents) struggle to keep up the energy, but the team played as hard as they could. The game would see West Grey score but we kept fighting back. Douglas would earn the hat trick, scoring three of the four goals. Gilbert, playing strong also earned his unassisted goal.

With two minutes left in the game, down 2, the Atoms LL pulled goalie Zach Bowles, hoping to get a goal back. But it wasn’t meant to be, and West Grey was able to finish with an empty net goal

The day ends with a loss to West Grey, 7-4.

Congratulations to the Atom LL for still bringing home the second place trophy. You kept your fans cheering, yelling, and on the edge of thier very cold seats all day. We are very proud of you!

Game 11
The weekend continued with a trip up to Lucknow on Sunday January 3. Sunday did not have as rewarding results as the tournament. The Atom LL suffered their first loss of the new year against a strong Lucknow Sepoys team. Loss of 0-7.

Game 12

No rest for this team as they continued their regular season play, welcoming Ripley to the PERC tonight.

Wow, Wow and Wow! What a game. The Atom LL shook of their loss from Sunday, pulled up their pants and went to work playing as a TEAM! The fast passes, hard skating and smart hockey paid off as we won 4-1.
Voskamp started the game with the first goal in the first period, assist to Gilbert. Ripley kept playing hard and was able to put one between the posts. Starting the second period at a 1-1 tie Gilbert was able to get his two goals, with great passes from Douglas. The game ended in the third with Nolan McMillian, assisted by Voskamp finishing the scoring to end the game. Great passing by ALL members of the team tonight.
Great moments were made tonight by the great opportunities you created as a team!

A very special shout out to every single member of this team! It has been a very busy three days. Your fans could not be more proud of you. Keep playing hard!
